Crazy how many changes you can experience in the weather driving from one city to another. At least there was no snow...
I swear that some tires are designed to spray as much water on the cars behind as possible. Especially true with semis, but there were some smaller cars creating little storms of their own today, argh. So annoying.
In other news, the 20" widescreen LCD showed up today. I'm SOO spoiled. I have 2 monitors going and this new baby makes my old CRT look dim and dull. Bittersweet ;) In any case, it will make design/programming so much nicer-- so much more room to work.
Anyways, just a useless excuse to post those pics I took ;)
Ah, to be easily amused. I got up this morning, started going through the usual routine in the bathroom. Got the shower warmed up, stepped in with my toothbrush in my mouth, and no sooner had I closed the shower door when bam, the lights went out.
At first I let out a short little girly scream (those who know me know how I like to make falsetto screams, heh) out of surprise, like someone had turned the lights out on me. It only took a moment to realize no one had turned the lights off on me, the power was just out (shower pranks seem to be a thing of the past... living in the dorms at BYU, fun times). Once I realized this, I started giggling. I was so amused that I was going to go ahead and just shower in the dark. Thankfully showering is something you do every day (well, HOPEFULLY) and hence not something you need light to do.
The bathroom is one of the only places in the house with no light, there is no window into the bathroom. From the shower I looked out at the door and could see light coming through the cracks, it reminded me of Ghostbusters when Dana is sitting in her apartment at night and Zuul is about to bust in on her. Slightly creepy but more amusing than anything. What a fun way to start off a Friday ;)

A couple months ago Marianne started a candy dish-- no, not at her desk, but at MINE. She supplied the bowl and the initial candy (I think it was valentines hershey kisses with almonds). It's become well known on the second floor now... it's almost always got candy in it. And good candy. One time Kathy put in jelly beans and some crap which I ended up throwing away cause I think they're gross. No, only good candy in this dish.
Here's what's great about it-- I work at a company with TONS of women. It's a well known fact sonny jim that women looove chocolate. Those who don't are just weird. I mean, I enjoy it, but I don't crave it as frequently as women tend to (and we know there are times of the month that they crave it more than others as well). So why is this great for the candy dish? Because someone is bound to wipe out half of it by themselves, feel guilty, and then refill it. Kathy has filled it once or twice, Mar fills it now and then, and now Kellene is saying she will refill it (because she wiped it out, except for one single solitary cadbury mini egg, a week or so ago when she was pulling an all nighter at the office trying to meet a deadline). The bowl just seems to replenish without me having to fill it up each time, it's great. Today Kelly brought in a bag of mini eggs... we'll see how long they last. It's a pity there's not something like Mini Eggs available all year long.
Anyways, random blurb about every day life in the office. I just think it's funny that though people have treats here all the time, my desk is becoming well known for having candy / chocolate. My evil side likes it because I know a lot of these people feel they shouldn't eat it but they can't resist, muahaha.

You know, I wish I had taken this picture... but then again, maybe I'll get some like it in a few weeks =P I haven't mentioned on here that there's a Hawaii trip planned that I will be taking part in. It'll be me, Jefe, and a bunch of fam for 7 days on the north shore of Oahu (Turtle Bay). I can finally see the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel (for school anyways), and I'm starting to get excited for Hawaii. I've never been before, it should be awesome, and fortunately I have a 1GB memory card and plenty of backup storage so taking pics will not be an issue, heh.
So on to the topic of tanning, from the post title. I'm sitting here at my desk, which is right next to my boss's desk this. This morning I heard him on the phone with someone apparently at his tanning salon that he runs on the side. "Holy crap, is the building going to explode or something?!"
After the phone conversation he proceeds to tell me about how some Toyata truck has just SMASHED into the Ruby Tuesdays downtown (it's no longer in business, good thing huh?) and how the truck was COMPLETELY inside the building. Apparently the driver was even a customer at the tanning salon. The first theory was that the guy was high or something, and then later I thought I heard him say that it was a high speed police chase, to which I responded "how do you like having criminals tan there eh?" To which he responds and tells me "that's nothing", and proceeds to tell me about this other crazy guy that comes in to tan. Here's the description of crazy tanning guy (paraphrased, oh that I had a photographic memory-- my boss is hilarious by the way):
"He's 6'4", weighs about 4 pounds! and he's a CONSTRUCTION WORKER. He's already tanner than tan, and he comes tanning regularly! Um, yeah-- leather skin, he's gross. He always comes in and tells us about how he was in jail for trying to kill the man who raped his daughter. Lately he's been telling us about how he's rich now because he bought a mine and has been mining gold from it. Now he's saying that he's sick of doing things for other people and he's just going to do things for himself-- he's going to go tanning and get a new set of teeth." Um, yeah-- sounds like leathery tanning freak maybe a few bricks short of a load. On top of that, he had me laughing about how when he first opened the place, they used to have a deal where your first tan was free, and all these homeless people would come in to get their free tan. Hello?
Bwahahaha! Oh man there are some crazies out there. Figures you'd find them down town-- I have no doubt there are even more crazies in bigger cities, oh what I miss out on living in the suburbs. I got accosted by crazies every now and then in Korea, fun times. At least I was never groped by one like some people I know....
Anyways, yeah I'm so not tan and fat chance of me being even remotely tan before I get to Hawaii. I'll just have to try not to get crispy early on... that would suck to be roasted the whole trip.
So that's how people talk these days at work, at least in my department where creativity and critique abound (design and art, yay). There's no "I like this" or "I don't like that", it's "do you love it?!" or "I don't love it." Well, at least it's not as bad as "I heart chocolate" or "I heart *current obsession here*". Oh my gosh, do you LOVE it?!
How well does this kid know me? I send Ty and IM today, it went something like this.
Me: Holy crap.
Ty: What?
Me: I was doing so good about not buying toys the last couple months but I'm being tempted again.
Ty: 24" flat screen display!
Me: Whoah, how did you know that's what I was thinking of?
Ty: I can just tell, it's like a vibe or something.
Man. He so nailed me on that one, I was totally drooling over, lusting after and contemplating buying a 24" LCD display for my computer at home. Oh my gosh, do you love it?!
I might as well post random stuff without pictures from time to time. Beats no posts for a month, doesn't it? I'm still waiting to find out why today is going to be lucky and memorable.

I love fortune cookies. Well, not really-- I don't even eat the cookies have the time because I don't enjoy them. But who doesn't like seeing what silly fortune is contained inside that cookie? This one was ok... I got a better one a week or 2 ago. It said "You will meet a handsome stranger on the Internet". It was amusing, in any case.
Anyhow I thought that since it'd been a month since I updated that I should write / post. I've actually had blog post ideas floating around my head, I just never sit down and hash them out. The next week and a half will suck with finals-- I enjoy web programming and I've learned quite a bit about CSS this semester, but it is time consuming and will leave me a bit stressed until my final project is done. After that... this web site is due for a change (not that I ever completed the last change, haha-- still no archives and really minimal effort put into the layout of the site). I shouldn't promise anything should I? Hehe...
